Canership is a twelve-week program that matches each mentee with two mentors. The cohort are all new immigrants who came to the US when they were in middle school. The approach is equal part career guidance and interpersonal training. The goal is to get them focused on what they want to do and help them see what that might look like. Each team comes up with a strategy plan to match the mentee’s needs and goals. A typical plan might include the following:
CAN organizes different fun social events and civic engagement activities throughout the year to help out members become contributing individuals and make a difference in the civic life of one’s community.
CAN offers internship and job referrals, ad-hoc college and career advice, resume review, mock interview practice and informational interview to our members.
CAN hosts various educational workshops, career panels, informational sessions and networking events to help our members understand different college and career options and develop a strong professional network.

Jin is currently working as a Vice President at NYC Economic Development Corporation. He has over 6+ years of experience in managing complex public/private ground lease development projects in New York City. His real estate expertise includes lease negotiation, property budgeting, lease audit, lease administration and project management. He loves traveling, exploring different cuisines and outdoor activities. Jin graduated from Hamilton College with a BA in Economics and received his MBA in real estate from Baruch College.
James graduated from Massachusetts Institute of Technology with both BS and MS in Computer Science & Artificial Intelligence. He is the Co-Founder and CTO of Thunkable. He enjoys trading stocks, watching TVB drama, and many more.
Judy has professional experience in various sectors including public, private, and non-profit companies. She’s currently a Vice President at NYCEDC. Besides the traditional technology operation tracks, her work also includes managing various technology initiatives, which often means bridging the gaps between business needs and technology offerings, and iron out any obstacles along the way. She received her BA in Information System from Baruch College and MBA in Computer Science and International Study from Pace University. Judy enjoys exploring different cultures, arts, cuisines, and countries.
A product of the NYC public education system, Jiin Wen proudly serves on the advisory boards for the GISc programs at Lehman College and BMCC. She is also on the curriculum board for one of NYC DOE’s top CTE programs– the architecture program at the High School of Art and Design. She supports her fellow colleagues as a co-senior sponsor of Elevation, an Employee Resource Group for BIPOC employees at the NYC Economic Development Corporation. Jiin is an architect, urban planner and a geospatial data practitioner . She received her Bachelor of Architecture from Pratt Institute and MUP from CUNY at Hunter College.
Aimee had worked in K12 international education for over 11 years. She provided consultation to support students to be the better version of themselves. She contributed herself as a volunteer in an NGO for 12 years , pressing ahead projects into school and society with the team. She received her Master degree in Education and BS in Applied Psychology . She had explored 15 countries with 60 cities. She enjoys music.
YanTing is currently studying at Binghamton University for a BS degree in Financial Economics. She is a senior student working as an Education Opportunity Program transfer mentor. She is a dog person and her favorite one is Siberian Husky.
Zhuohao is presently studying Computer Science at City College of New York for his BS degree. He is presently assisting the immigrant community as a Community Ambassador for CUNY and the NYC DOE College Immigrant Ambassador Program. He is also a Golden Door Scholar and an Event Planner for the CCNY Chinese Students and Scholars Association. Artificial Intelligence is one of his life’s passions. Badminton and table tennis are two of his favorite sports.
Qi Qi is a current high school senior at John Dewey High School. She actively participated in the Mock Trial Team. She loves to listen to music, watch movies, and watch matches from the Chinese Women Volleyball team and Chinese Table Tennis team, especially those of Yingsha Sun. She loves to play board games and solve puzzles during her leisure time.
Carol is currently working as an Executive Director in Morgan Stanley responsible for regulatory matters including regulatory advisory, technology governance and risk management. Carol is a strategic and thought leader who has worked in the financial services industry for more than 18 years with well-rounded expertise in areas of auditing, compliance and regulations, risk management, vendor and project management. Carol enjoys outdoor activities, reading, traveling, and has a plethora of curiosity in trying new adventures (e.g., a radio host in MRBI, amateur onstage performance)
Amy is a A professional with 20+ years of professional experience working in the finance industry. Amy has extensive work experience providing support to c-level officers, handled investment data analytics, drafted policies & procedures, strategic planning for office management, managed HR functions inside of investment banking, and served other management functions.
Amy currently works in an asset management firm as the IT Department Project Manager, assisting the CTO on different projects and solving issues that may impact project delivery.
At leisure, Amy enjoys different extreme outdoor activities and indoor sports. In addition to her active life, Amy loves to explore different cuisine from all around the world.
Bruce has been an attorney in New York for more than three decades. His focus is on real estate and commercial transactions. He also assists private corporations and not for profit organizations regarding corporate governance and operations. He has represented many clients from China and throughout Asia, and has visited China numerous times for philanthropic and business purposes. Bruce has been actively involved in the Asian American community and is the recipient of the “Dream of Equality” and “Agent of Change” awards from Asian Americans for Equality (AAFE) for his service in the areas of real estate, economic development, and voting rights. He has served on the Board of Directors of the Asian Real Estate Association of America (AREAA) and is Legal Advisor to the American Chinese Real Estate Society (ACRES). He recently received the “Appreciation Award” from Immigrant Social Services of New York for his support to the immigrant community in New York City. For relaxation he enjoys reading novels, watching classic movies, and playing his trumpet.
CT was a distinguished former high school teacher who taught at John Dewey High School at Brooklyn, NY. In the course of his more than 20 years of teaching career, CT generously devoted his personal time to tutor his immigrant students for SAT preparation and provide advice on the college application process and how to succeed in college and career. His valuable mentoring has helped numerous students to unleash their potential, inspire them to pursue higher education, pursue meaningful careers, and see different possibilities in life. Prior to teaching at John Dewey High School, CT was an economics professor at Hong Kong. For relaxation he enjoys reading, cheesecake, steak and working out.
Moven Lee is a recent graduate of James Madison High School and an upcoming freshman at Rochester Institute of Technology. As the newest member of CAN, though he has little to no experience designating problems and programming events, Moven is still willing to master those skills with the help of his colleagues. With several courses in line to help him, Moven is physically and mentally ready for his future tasks.
Fuhua Feng is a high school senior at John Dewey currently. She is one of the members at MSAC club in the school; which helped accomplish many school events and contributed to immigrants and school needs. She is curious and willing to participate and contribute in as many extracurriculars or events as she can even if she has little bit of interest. During leisure, she likes to watch short knowledgeable videos (from TED) and movies, and play badminton.
Shirley is currently a finance manager at a pharmaceutical company. Prior to this, she worked as a product controller and forecasting analyst at J.P.Morgan Chase and Citi for 8 years. She graduated from University of Rochester with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics and a Master of Science degree in Finance. Outside of work, she’s an ameteur yogi, Classpass lover, gastronome and travel enthusiast.
Christy has over 10 + years of experience in the financial industry, specializing in accounting, operations and compliance. She is currently a co-owner of Smoove Ice cream. She loves arts, food and traveling. Christy graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Economics, a Master of Science in Management and a MBA in Finance from University of Rochester.
Yvonne recently graduated from Hamilton College with BA in Economics. She is currently a member of Teach for America and is an 8th grade math teacher in Newark,NJ. She had previously studied abroad in Stockholm and London and had travelled to more than 14 countries worldwide.
Zi recently graduated from University of Rochester with a BA in Data Science and Financial Economics. She is currently working as a software engineer at J.P.Morgan Chase. She loves travelling and had previously studied abroad in London and Barcelona. Zi is also a member of Phi Beta Kappa, Alpha Kappa Psi, and Sigma Psi Zeta Sorority, Inc, where she held different leadership roles such as Regional Director, Chapter President, and New Member Educator during college.
Fred currently works as Portfolio Analyst at SECOR Asset Management, LP. He works in the Portfolio Solutions Group supporting portfolio management and client reporting needs. He worked at JP Morgan Chase & Co. previously as a software developer developing internal solutions to trading and client reporting groups. He came from a technical background in college and had done research and internship at both academic and industry settings. Fred graduated with BS and MS in Electrical & Computer Engineering from Carnegie Mellon University. In his spare time, he enjoys travelling, watching youtube/tv shows, and working out.
